Dugi Otok (Croatian for “Long Island”, Italian: Isola Lunga) is the seventh largest island in the Adriatic Sea, part of Croatia. It is located off the Dalmatian coast, west of Zadar. It is the largest and easternmost of the Zadarian Islands, and derives its name from its distinctive shape (it is 45 km (28 miles) long by 5 km (3 miles) wide with an area of 114 square kilometres (44 sq mi). Its elevation reaches 300 m; and many of its higher portions contain stands of Maritime Pine.

The western coast is tall and rugged, and many of the towns are clustered on the eastern side, including Sali, the largest, Božava, Dragove, Soline, Brbinj, Luka, Polje, Verona, Savar, Veli Rat, Zaglav, and Žman. A nature park, Telašćica, covers the southern part of the island and is adjacent to Kornati Islands National Park.

he island has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII in the 10th century mentioned it under the name of Pizuh, and later it was called Insula Tilagus in documents (“pelagos”in Greek means sea), and its Latin name was Insula maior. In the 15th century it was registered as Veli otok.

The old and main settlement on the island was located in the southern area. It has only been inhabited significantly since the Turkish invasions (15th-16th centuries). Until then the island belonged to Zadar monasteries and citizens. Nowadays there is a total of 10 settlements on the island, and they are all on the north-eastern side of the island concerned primarily with fishing, although salt was once produced here.

The village of Veli Rat is also home to the Veli Rat lighthouse, another spectacular sight. The beautiful island of Dugi Otok, with a Mediterranean climate and ancient Croatian culture, receives very few visitors. Olive oil, figs, cheese and wine accompany the seafood in the natives’ diet. A definite step back in time, the island boasts an ancient pre-Roman church and some Roman ruins. It is in close proximity to Kornati.

The apartments are close to the beautiful city of Zadar. Zadar is the main city in North Dalmatia with over 76,000 inhabitants. Most famous for its Old Town, set in a peninsula that is completely pedestrianised, the town has numerous Roman and other wonderful sights – some rather modern – so is a delight to visit.

The town is also very easy to reach, whether flying in from elsewhere in Europe (it has its own airport) or by bus from other destinations in Croatia. There are also internal flights to the town’s airport from other places in Croatia.

Zadar is perhaps sometimes overlooked as a place to visit in Croatia, possibly because it is slightly out of the way of the delights further south in Dalmatia. However, it really is a charming town and a beautiful place to spend your vacation.

Aside this garage a small independant apartment is facing the sea with its nice terrace.
This appartment has two main rooms and a large bathroom.
The bedroom is equiped with 3 beds and two spare beds can be put in the other room , we choose to organise an independant sleeping studio for all the kids of the house.
But it is fully equiped and can eventually be rented separatly.

There is no car parking or garage on the plot and this will have to be made, on the road side; it is quite affordable to built such a parking, and there is plenty of space on the plot.
Depending on the size of the parking required, no licence is needed.
An outside BBQ is also availbable.
The house is equiped and organised to receive up to 12 persons for holidays with very large volumes adapted to european style of living

The sea access is just in front of the house, within few others steps and path

The sea access has been nicely landscaped, it has a mooring deck for diving with a swimming pool lader and a smooth sea access for youngers.
It is really a fantastic and very rare position, first row to the sea ; very hard to find in western europe and often hardly accessible in terms of price.

It is important to know that the urbanistic plan in croatia has changed in 2010 and has voted for the next 15 years and the side side is not anymore constructable within a distance of 70 meters from the sea ( except the pre urbanized zones). So this position will become more and more exceptional and rare.

Localisation :

The house in situated on the island of Korcula within a short driving distance from the cities of Blato and Vela-luka.
The city of korcula is within 30 minuts of driving distance.

There are 3 mains ways to access to the island of korcula ; via Dubrovnik and with a two and half hours drive ( including a 15 min ferry from Orebic to korcula ) or via Split with a two hours car ferry transfer directly from split to the port of vela luka.
The third way consist in taking a sea plane nearby split airport and within a 20 minuts flight land in vela luka arbor.
It is a little more expensive, but very conveniant for short term trips.

The water here is very clear and transparent all year. There is a special gulf stream in this area of the island that provides a warmer water, even warmer than on the south coast or anywhere else on the island , by 3 or 4 degrees all year long.

In the summer time the weather is very sunny, mediteranean type , with very little rain.
Around 30/33 degrees in july and august , but it is always nice as the sea brings a little sea wind that cools up the air.
The water is around 26 to 28 degrees all summer long.

This house is close to town Primosten. Primosten is a small town in North Dalmatia, located close to Sibenik and just over an hour or so north (along the coastal road) from Split. This pretty little town was once on an island (as you can tell from its shape), although it was attached to the mainland in the 16th century.

Primosten is probably best known for being a resort, so you’ll most likely be making it here to holiday rather than to merely visit for a day.
Primosten is relatively well known for its beaches, the most famous being Raduca beach. A pebble beach, its shallow waters means it’s great for families with young children.
