Not only is it the largest island in central Dalmatia, it is also the highest island of all islands in the Adriatic with the highest peak at Vidova Gora where it reaches 778 meters. It is not problematic to reach the top, either by car or by hiking if you are looking for a bit more active vacation, and when you get there you are free to enjoy the view over to the Zlatni Rat Beach on Brac, Hvar island and others. Lighthouse for rent, Dugi otok has the capacity of:
1/3 + 1/4 apartments, with the keeper, heated.
Apartment A3.. * * *
Approx. 41 m2, one room with 3 single beds, (21 m2), kitchen (14 m2), shower-WC (4 m2).
Apartment A4.. * * *
Approx. 48 m2, one double room (16 m2), kitchen with sofa (22 m2), shower- WC (7 m2).
The lighthouse was built in 1849 on the southwestern cape of the island of Dugi otok, 35 km west of the city of Zadar. It is surrounded by pine trees, beautiful bays and pebble beaches and is considered one of the most beautiful on the Adriatic. It offers an unforgettable experience – a splendid view from the 40 m high lighthouse tower.
There are two wonderful pebble beaches suitable for small children in the vicinity of the lighthouse. If you go for a walk, you will pass by several charming bays.
The island of Dugi otok is connected to the mainland by ferry line Zadar – Brbinj (20 NM, the ferry trip takes an hour and 15 min). The lighthouse is some 20 km form Brbinj and can be reached by car by taking the asphalt road. Please check the ferry line schedule ( www.jadrolinija.hr ) since it changes depending on the season. We recommend you arrive in the port of Zadar on time in order to be certain that you will embark a ferry in high season.
There is an open market, as well as many grocery stores in the vicinity of the port of Zadar. Please keep in mind that prices on Dugi otok are much higher than in Zadar, while it might be difficult to purchase some provisions during high season, such as fresh meat. We advise you to purchase provisions in Bozava or in the place of Sali on the other side of the island, where there is a much better selection. Fish can be bought from the lighthouse keeper if arranged in advance, while you can also arrange preparation of fish specialties with the lighthouse keeper and his wife.
The thick lighthouse walls, that according to legend contain thousands of egg-whites to make them more resistant to wind and sea, protect you from the blazing sun in the summer months. There is an old church under a century-old pine tree in the large paved yard.
During your stay you can visit Kornati National Park and Telascica Nature Park nearby. The starting point for trips to Kornati is the place of Sali on the other side of Dugi otok. The lighthouse has always had a lighthouse keeper and there has always been a waiting list, since many lighthouse keepers have been dreaming of spending at least some time in this unique lighthouse.

The lighthouse was built in 1876, and is actually one fairly large stone building connected with a monumental iron tower by a 200 foot long corridor. The building yard is very spacious, around 1200 square feet. Both apartments offer splendid panoramic view of Kornati islands, Long Island and immense open sea. A large berth with boat crane offers more than enough room for sunbathing. Stairs lead directly into the sea.
The return transfer to the lighthouse starts from Sukošan (on the mainland). Please, be advised to contact the boat captain in time (2-3 days earlier). The trip lasts approximately 1h and 30mins and offers a unique navigation through the straits and around the islands of Kornati archipelago.
There’s no possibility to purchase provisions on the island, so please purchase everything you need before arriving there. The town of Sukošan offers several well stocked supermarkets.
The lighthouse tower was made in France and is the only iron tower in the Adriatic Sea. It took builders several months to bolt and weld it together before the light could be lit. The master bedroom offers incredible view of the revolving light as you lie down.
