Rovinj is a city with Mediterranean climate, located on the Croatian coast of the Adriatic sea, situated on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula, a popular destination among tourists and the locals. It is considered to be one of the nicest towns in Istria, and Croatia as a whole, thanks to the beautiful Adriatic sea, mild climate, picturesque colorful houses rising above the water, romantic atmosphere and narrow cobbled streets. Rovinj has a rugged coast, and there are 14 islands and 6 cliffs in the archipelago near it. Some of the most popular are the St. Andrew (or the Red Island) and St. Catherine, giving you a great place to go and explore your surroundings. They are easy to access by the local ferries.

This picturesque town has a few cultural and historical sites to see as well. The old town of Rovinj was built on an island that was secured by medieval walls, and was later connected to the mainland. The city used to have seven gates, and today, three of them are still preserved to this day. These are The Gate of St. Benedict, The Portica and The Gate of the Holy Cross. The Church of St. Euphemia is a must see, a Venetian Baroque building and the largest monument in the city that was.

restored in between the 1725. and 1736. The bell tower is even considered to be a replica of the church of St. Mark in Venice, and you can access the tower from inside the church and see the most lovely view. A lot of artists like to gather here, and the place is filled with art galleries and studios, you can even attend the largest open-air exhibition of the Adriatic coast that takes place every year in August.
There are amazing natural values in this part of Istria. The Golden Cape- Zlatni rt Park Forest is the oldest protected site in Istria and it has high botanical value with its old oak and pine trees. This area will give you the chance to easily access and enjoy walking or biking in nature, or even to climb rocks, and all of this is just 15 minutes away from the city center. If you continue your walk by the sea just a little bit longer, you should come to the Skaraba Park forest, a park with great aesthetic landscape value.

There are even some beaches in this area, such as the Golden Bay, made of gravel and pebble and located in front of the St. Andrew’s island, the rocky Scaraba beach or the Lone bay located near the entrance to the Park Forest.
After you’ve done some exploring the wild and enjoying the nature, it is time to eat something delicious, and Rovinj will offer a true authentic experience of tradition. Some foods are inevitable here in the Istrian area, so you will surely be offered some freshly caught fish, crabs or shells, Istrian’s ham, prosciutto served with special goat cheese, famous truffles and asparagus. For the main part, the best option to go for is the traditional meals made with pasta and meat, or try some sea food specialty. Istria is also famous for it’s wine, and you will be able to relax with a glass of some of the best vines, such as the Istrian Malvazija, Chardonnay, Teran, Merlot and Cabarnet Sauvignon.
